Famously controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan has seemingly defended Phillip Schofield and urged people to stop their “relentless persecution” of him. The former Good Morning Britain host, 58, took to social media following Phillip’s bombshell interviews with the BBC and The Sun about his affair with a younger male production runner.
“Unless Phillip Schofield’s ex-lover contradicts his version of events to @TheSun & BBC, then it’s time to stop this relentless persecution of a guy who’s lost everything and looks right on the edge to me. He doesn’t seem to have committed any crime, and he’s not a Govt minister,” Piers wrote on Twitter. It comes after he previously voiced his support for Phillip’s former co-host Holly Willoughby - read more about that here.
Several people responded to Piers’ tweet, sharing their own thoughts on the scandal. One person wrote: “The best thing he could've done was to come out of hiding and answer questions.”

A second person said: “Totally agree.” And a third person wrote: “I personally think the media really should back off, it's getting too much now and way out of proportion.”
While others were having none of what Piers' had to say about the situation, with one Twitter critic pointing out: "This is the guy who led the witch hunt for Megan Markle and said she was lying when she admitted that she felt suicidal." The backlash over the controversial host's take on the Duchess of Sussex's Oprah Winfrey interview led to him storming off Good Morning Britain and leaving for good, you can remind yourself of what happened, here.
Piers’ tweet comes after Phillip shared his side of the story. In an interview with BBC journalist Amol Rajan, he said: "Do you want me to die? Because that is where I am. I have lost everything."
Phillip also compared himself to the late TV presenter Caroline Flack, who took her own life in 2020. He apologised, numerous times, to the runner with whom he had the affair with.
Elsewhere in the interview, Phillip stressed that he has never abused his power - read more about what he had to say on that here. Phillip’s former co-host Holly is set to return to the This Morning sofa next week accompanied by Josie Gibson.
