Piers Morgan in tears over Queen's 'unbearably sad' funeral as he leads US coverage

Piers Morgan was left in tears over emotional scenes during The Queen's state funeral today.

Controversial TV host Piers, 57, was covering the funeral for US TV station Fox News when he was left teary eyed and hailed it as "unbearably sad".

The UK has been engaged in 10 days of mourning following the monarch's death, which culminated in her funeral today, beginning from 11am at Westminster Abbey.

Millions around the world were expected to be watching the funeral as King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward bid goodbye to their mother.

The Queen's children and grandchildren - including Prince William and Harry - followed her coffin in procession to Westminster Abbey.

"This procession is spectacular & spine-tingling," he tweeted of the scenes. "A stunning display of pageantry & military precision for our greatest Monarch. Just sensational."

In response, one follower wrote: "My son is part of the gun carriage crew. He is directly behind the coffin, 2nd in on our right. We are unbelievably proud parents."

He replied: "So you should be. He is doing the nation proud."

Piers then tweeted a smiling crying emoji as he watched while the coffin was carried out of Westminster.

Speaking afterwards, he told his US co-hosts: "I found it unbearably sad but I found it was a great example of British pomp and ceremony.

"I thought it was incredibly fitting."

He continued: When the anthem played earlier, I felt quite choked up.... as a British person who's lived 57 years, that's a really strange and surreal moment.

"It's a very poignant moment, it's a very sad moment."

After the service, a procession was led toward Hyde Park Corner, before the coffin is transported to Windsor for a committal service, and then later a small, private ceremony for the Royal Family.

Following The Queen's death earlier this month, King Charles paid tribute to his "beloved mama" in an emotional speech to the nation.

In his address, the King said: "Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today."

His Majesty referred to the new roles and titles now given to members of the family, confirming Camilla would serve has his Queen Consort.

On William and Kate, he said: "As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.

"He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades."

Harry and Meghan reunited with the Prince and Princess of Wales to look at some of the tributes left at Windsor Castle.

Prince William sent a dramatic final-hour text to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to view the tributes, though he is said to have not been acting on the orders of King Charles.

The Cambridges and Sussexes are believed to have struck a "truce" though the trust is "gone", a royal insider claimed.
