Piers Morgan helps Cristiano Ronaldo pick next club amid Man Utd exit and Chelsea interest

Piers Morgan has suggested that Arsenal should look to sign Cristiano Ronaldo on a short-term contract as they prepare to launch a title charge when the Premier League returns. It comes in the wake of the Portuguese stating that Erik ten Hag has shown him a lack of respect since arriving at Old Trafford.

In an interview with Morgan for the Sun, the Red Devils superstar said: "Not only the coach, but the other two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed [when asked if he was being forced out of the club.]

"I don't know what's going on. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left I have seen not evolution in the club. The progress was zero," he continued. "I think the fans should know the truth, I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

"But you have some things inside that don't help [us] reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal...a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately. As Picasso said, you have to destroy it to rebuild it (the exact quote was: 'Every act of creation is first an act of destruction')."

Ronaldo had been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, with owner Todd Boehly keen on signing him, but after Graham Potter's arrival at the club, rumours have seemingly died down. Meanwhile, he, alongside fellow global superstar Lionel Messi, has also been touted with a transfer to the MLS.

But Morgan thinks that he should stay in the Premier League and trade Manchester for north London.

"Absolutely [would have him at Arsenal]," he told talkSPORT breakfast on Monday morning. "What do Arsenal need right now? Arsenal could win the title this year, we really really could but I think Jesus needs a scoring partner next to him and Jesus’ heatmap is so outrageous, he covers so much ground, what we need is a fox in the box.

"A world-class player, with bags of experience, that’s won everything that could help us get over the line, well I could think of somebody, Cristiano Ronaldo. I’d take him for six months in a heartbeat. It’s almost like Ronaldo can’t play football, it’s laughable."

Whether he does make a shock move to the Emirates remains to be seen, but judging by Mikel Arteta's handling of players with big egos in the past, it probably isn't a transfer that's going to happen.
