Piers Morgan fumes Meghan and Prince Harry getting human rights award is 'disgusting'

Piers Morgan has described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle winning the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights award as “outrageous”, and has condemned Kerry Kennedy for “besmirching the memory of her father”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to receive the Ripple of Hope Award from Robert F. Kennedy’s daughter, Kerry, for standing up to the alleged racism they experienced while they were a part of the Royal Family.

It came after the pair alleged that a member of the royal family had made a racist comment about the skin colour of their then unborn son Archie, during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

Many commended the couple for “taking a stance against racism”, however Piers Morgan, who is less than happy with the judging decision, aired his thoughts on the situation while appearing on “Fox & Friends” on Monday.

He said: “The idea that these two little grifters, who quit royal duty, quit Britain… exploited and fleeced their royal titles for hundreds of millions of dollars straight in their back pocket…the idea that they're being lauded as some kind of heroes in America by your own sort of royal family, if you like, the Kennedys, it really sticks in my gullet.”

He then called out Harry and Meghan for “trashing” their families in the media, going on to accuse the former of causing distress to his father, King Charles III, with the imminent release of his new book, with the monarch already dealing with emotional difficulties following the death of his mother, The Queen.

On Meghan, Piers said: “You've got Meghan Markle, who was a sort of two-bit mediocre actress who married into a family, took our favourite prince, took him to America, and is now spending her entire time trying to attack the monarchy .

“And I'm sorry, but as a monarchist and as somebody who loves this country, I think it's completely outrageous that they are now being given the cloak of honour and prestige and branded heroes by a Kennedy… Honestly, words fail me.“

However, Kerry Kennedy had called Meghan and Harry's interview with Oprah a "heroic stand". She told El Confidencial : "They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.

"They knew that if they did this there would be consequences, that they would be ostracised, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it. They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn’t live with themselves if they didn’t question this authority. I think they have been heroic in taking this step.”

Following the Oprah interview, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, saying: "While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately."

The Ripple of Hope Gala awards ceremony is set to take place in New York on December 6.
