Piers Morgan challenges Gary Neville to Arsenal wager after telling pundit to "pipe down"

Piers Morgan has offered to make a bet with Gary Neville after the Manchester United legend insisted Arsenal would not win the Premier League.

The Gunners are eight points clear at the top of the table following a dominant win in Sunday's North London Derby against Tottenham. But United are on a run of nine successive wins in all competitions, which has thrust them into the title conversation.

The Red Devils travel to Emirates Stadium on Sunday in what is set up to be a huge clash towards the top of the table. And Neville believes that despite their sizeable lead, Arsenal will not be lifting their first title for 19 years come the end of the season.

"They won't win the league. Manchester City will win the league and I think Man United will finish second, and I know that will annoy Arsenal fans! I'd rather Arsenal win the league than Man City," the Old Trafford legend told the Gary Neville Podcast.

"I think about watching the Premier League, we've seen City sweep up - apart from Liverpool - over the past five years. To think Arsenal could come and win it, it adds to our league, it makes our league great.

"I'd love Man United to win it, but I don't think that's going to happen this season. The reality of it is, I think at some point Man City will hit a run. Once they do, they've got to play Arsenal twice. At some point, there will be a very difficult period for Arsenal this season.

"Is it conceivable that Arsenal are going to continue as they are? I don't think it is. Could they draw two and lose one in a three-game period? And if they did that, their lead is gone, and the pack is up with them.

"That's what I think is going to happen: we'll see a traditional Premier League season where a team goes out, the pacemaker, and then they'll get drawn back in a little bit."

In response to those comments, Morgan, who is renowned for being an outspoken Arsenal fan, has taken aim at Neville. He branded the United icon "T-Bag" and offered to make a wager with the pundit.

"Pipe down T-Bag. I bet you £5000 to charity that Arsenal finish higher in the league [than United]," Morgan tweeted. The "T-Bag" reference relates to the nickname Neville was given by Wayne Rooney while at United.

The nickname is a reference to the iconic villain in US drama series Prison Break. Neville has previously revealed he was called it during an interview with Declan Rice after the West Ham star named Prison Break as his favourite TV show.

Neville said during the interview on The Overlap: "You're gonna come up with the joke abut me now, aren't you? Do you know they call me T-Bag? Rooney called me that for years."
