Piers Morgan calls for Premier League games to 'go ahead' this weekend as 'Queen loved sport'

TV presenter Piers Morgan has taken to social media to call for the Premier League to reverse their decision to postpone the fixtures that were originally scheduled for this weekend.

A lifelong Arsenal fan, Morgan called for sporting events to continue while the country mourns the loss of its longest-serving monarch following her death yesterday afternoon.

Leeds United have had their Monday evening fixture against Nottingham Forest postponed as part of the decision, a game that would've been the first top-flight meeting between the two sides since 1999.

Morgan's heed comes after the Premier League's statement explaining that "to honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game."

The 57-year-old tweeted: "Sporting events should go ahead. a) The Queen loved sport and b) It would be great to see/hear huge crowds singing the National Anthem in tribute to Her Majesty, as West Ham fans did so magnificently last night."

Last night, West Ham fans sang the national anthem before their Europa Conference League match against FCSB after the news of Her Majesty's death was announced.
