Piers Morgan pulled no punches during his appearance on BBC 's Question Time yesterday as he called on the Tories to “get rid” of Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The former Good Morning Britain host also clashed with former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi as he criticised the Government ’s handling of the cost of living crisis. Piers slammed the Conservatives ’ mini-budget as “playing casino politics with the nation’s economy”.
Piers branded Liz Truss’ leadership an “unmitigated shambles”, and warned that the poorest people in the country would pay the price for the “monumental c***-up” of the mini-budget. The presenter also voiced his uncertainty that Truss had the “brass neck” to remain in Number 10, and added that Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng should depart his job as well as the Prime Minister, The Mirror reports .

As a member of the studio audience asked the panel how long they believed Liz Truss would be able to continue as Prime Minister, Piers responded: “Tonight? I think she's done. I think if you come in at this stage, two years until an election, with the polling as catastrophic as it is - and it's a direct result of the first thing you do for the country - and you play casino politics with the nation's economy, putting it all on red then it comes up black […] I'm not sure how she has the brass neck to stay in the job.”
He added: “Along with her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng. It's not that I'm pro or anti the Conservative Party - this is supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility but it couldn't be anything but the opposite.”
Piers continued: “I'm afraid they have gambled with the economy and our finances and it won't be them that suffer, it will be the poorest members of society who are going to wake up to some horrific bills. They [the Tories] are going to say: 'Well, we're helping you out with energy bills’ - but what about the mortgages, because they're going to dwarf energy bills.”
The presenter also found himself at odds with Tory minister Nadhim Zahawi over the mini-budget. “In the last ten days of the monumental c***-up you did with this mini-budget, I’ve so far heard people blame the Queen’s funeral for what happened, you’re now blaming Vladimir Putin,” he told Zahawi.
“I’m saying to you it’s simpler than that. Your mini-budget caused the chaos.” Host Fiona Bruce was then forced to cut in and silence the pair as they exchanged a fiery back and forth over who was responsible for the state of the economy.
Speaking of Liz Truss’ premiership, Piers said: “I think it's been an unmitigated shambles and I think it's been a reckless gamble - it should never have happened - and it's got to stop at the door of the Prime Minister. People say you can't get rid of them, but why not? They've had about 40,000 leaders in the last five years - let's throw another one on the fire.”
