Piers Morgan backs Prince Harry in unexpected show of support for over uniform 'ban'

In a surprise show of support, Piers Morgan has backed Prince Harry, after the Duke of Sussex was 'banned' from wearing military uniform to mourn his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, before a u-turn on Thursday, stating he will be given 'special exemption' to do so as a mark of respect.

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle were in the UK at the time of Her Majesty's passing on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96, with Harry travelling up to Balmoral, tragically arriving at the Scottish estate hours after her death.

The Duke of Sussex has been in attendance at key events over the past week, joining brother William and his wife Kate, alongside Meghan at Windsor Castle on Saturday, to speak to crowds and look at floral tributes left in memory of the Queen., Harry was then alongside William, the new Prince of Wales, as a Royal party walked behind Her Majesty's coffin as it made its way from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where it is now lying in state until her funeral.

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of debate over Prince Harry not being allowed to wear military uniform during the mourning period, while Prince Andrew was seen wearing medals in Edinburgh and is set to be allowed his naval uniform for the funeral itself.

Addressing the differences of opinion on the matter, a spokesperson for the Duke said: "Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother. His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

That statement was picked up on by outspoken broadcaster Piers, who was on air in the immediate aftermath of the Queen's death with his Talk TV show Uncensored. Sharing it on his Twitter timeline, he wrote: "Harry should be allowed to wear his military uniform. He earned it."

Taken aback by Piers' support for Harry, after years of criticism, one of huis followers replied: "*screen shot* don't think I've ever seen you say something positive about Harry," with another, also in shock, reacting: "Wow you’ve changed your tune."

Others backed Piers' stance, while others took an opposing view. Taking a different stance,. one Twitter user commented: "You’re missing the point. Ex-military don’t wear uniform like some sort of costume. He wore it because of the honorary titles he held because of being a working royal, which he no longer is."
