Piers Morgan has praised an unusual tribute to his friend the cricket legend Shane Warne as fans paid their respects at Melbourne Cricket Ground overnight.
On Friday, it was reported that Shane had died at the age of 52 following a suspected heart attack in Thailand.
The former sportsman was said to have been enjoying a 'lads' holiday' in Koh Samui, when friends found him unconscious in a villa at the resort.
The shock news prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, with many leaving cards and flowers at a statue to Shane at his former club.
Among the tributes, one appreciator left a cheeky trio of gifts in ode to Shane's renowned party lifestyle.
Commenting on the unusual display, broadcaster Piers, who had been a close friend of Shane's, tweeted: "Amid all the flowers left by Shane Warne's statue... one fan left a beer can, meat pie and a packet of cigarettes. Brilliant," he added followed by applaud emojis and a picture of the tribute.
The post divided some fans with some calling it 'inappropriate.'
"The three things that can lead to a heart attack - really what's the point of leaving those?" replied one.
"Someone dying really brings out the worst in people," agreed another.
"Tribute to what probably killed him," complained a third.
However, another called it a 'very apt tribute'.
"That made me laugh out loud. Shane would have loved it I'm sure," they added.
The world of cricket and fans around the world have becoming to terms with the loss of one of the sports greatest figures.
The former Australia leg-spinner suffered a suspected heart attack in Thailand.
Shane took 708 Test wickets, the second-highest ever, in 145 matches across an illustrious 15-year international career.
He also claimed 293 wickets in one-day internationals and played a part in helping Australia win the World Cup in 1999.
As the news broke on Friday, former friend Piers wrote: "Absolutely devastated to hear that Shane Warne has died from a heart attack aged just 52.
"He was a genius cricketer, a supreme entertainer, a fantastic bloke and a great loyal friend for many years. Just gutting news. RIP Warnie, I loved every minute in your company."
Shane was found dead while on holiday in Koh Samui, Thailand on Friday evening.
Police said four friends staying with him battled to save his life four 20 minutes after finding him unconscious in his villa.
The group are said to have discovered Shane when they went to wake him for food at around 5pm local time.
An ambulance took Shane to Thai International Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Shane's manager confirmed his death in a statement, telling reporters that the father-of-three could not be revived.
"It is with great sadness we advise that Shane Keith Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand today, Friday 4 March.
"Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course."
He is survived by his three children Brooke, Summer and Jackson.
