Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tipped for Chelsea deja vu as links emerge for possible replacement striker

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could find himself surplus to requirements at Chelsea just as he did at Barcelona, former Blues star Tony Cascarino has warned.

The Catalans signed the striker in January and, despite fine form having left Arsenal, he was moved on in the summer to make way for Robert Lewandowski.

Cascarino believes Chelsea could end up using Aubameyang, 33, as a similar stop-gap with the player struggling for regular game time under Graham Potter.

“I’m not even sure Aubameyang is a player Chelsea will be looking at into next season,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think what will happen is what happened to him at Barcelona. They brought him to the club, got a big signing, then realised quite quickly they need to move away to a better striker.

“I think Chelsea will have to do that as a football club. They’ll come away from Aubameyang by the end of the season and they’ll look for an alternative without a doubt.”

A number of strikers have been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks, including Lautaro Martinez in a potential £52million battle with Manchester United.

Victor Osimhen of Napoli is reportedly a more expensive option and Lille’s Jonathan David has also been touted for Chelsea.
