Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent brutal MLS transfer warning as Chelsea dealt easy decision

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been told that he would not get into LAFC's starting lineup. The 33-year-old faces an increasingly uncertain future at Chelsea as Graham Potter looks to revamp his squad.

The striker, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2024, has featured 11 times for the Blues in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards just one goal. Despite Aubameyang being the west Londoners' only senior option to lead the frontline, Kai Havertz has been preferred.

The Gabon international has been out of favour, and out of form even when called upon. So much so that he was omitted from the Champions League squad to make space for Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix.

With the European transfer window closed, Aubameyang has been left with limited options should he seek an escape route from Chelsea before the end of the season. According to MLS-insider Tom Bogert, as quoted by the Express, LAFC have been in talks over a potential move for the striker.

But, in a brutal rant, former MLS star Herculez Gomez believes that Aubameyang is not the right signing for the MLS champions. He said: "No, not as a starter - and you're not bringing him in to sit on the bench.

"Why not? Because Chicho Arango, who was a goal scorer and produced so many dangerous plays for LAFC, who was for all intensive purposes already a DP (Designated Player) in his numbers on the field, was being asked to do all those other things.

"The high press, the defensive scheme, the work rate, I don't think you're going to get that here. But it doesn't mean you can't be a good player, it doesn't mean he can't be a star player in Major League Soccer.

"With this LAFC, I don't know if it's the best fit or the natural fit. That being said, those players can find a way to impact the game anyway."

MLS' 'primary transfer window' opens on January 31 and closes on April 24. The report states that Chelsea and LAFC are in talks over a move but they're not close to an agreement yet due to financial issues.

If the Blues are to sanction Aubameyang's move to the United States then they'll likely have to cover a large percentage of his salary. But, with the striker facing an increasingly uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, the west Londoners might be inclined to cut their losses.
