Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Arsenal exit: Barcelona arrival, deal close, Arteta transfer stance

Monday night's transfer deadline is fast approaching and Arsenal are rapidly running out of time to conduct business.

The north Londoners have been linked with a move for centre-forwards in recent weeks as Mikel Arteta looks for a long-term replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and out of contract frontmen Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette.

Aubameyang's future was left uncertain after he was stripped of the club captaincy last month following a disciplinary breach.

Now, football.london has rounded up everything we know about Aubameyang's future as he nears a move to Barcelona.

Barcelona arrival

As shared across social media, Aubameyang has arrived in Catalonia ahead of his proposed move to Barcelona.

football.london understands that the deal is expected to be completed today [January 31].

Move close

football.london had reported that Aubameyang's preference is to stay in Europe, and it now seems as though a move to Barcelona is more likely.

Now, as per the Athletic, the La Liga giants are close to reaching an agreement with the Gunners to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

Talks abandoned

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Al Nassr have abandoned talks for the Gabon frontman, who favours a move to Europe.

Writing on Twitter, Romano said: "Al Nassr have decided to leave the negotiations for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as things stand. Official [proposal] has been withdrawn.

"Aubameyang's waiting for European clubs - let's see if the situation will change within Monday."

Barcelona and Juventus keen

According to The Athletic, both Barcelona and Juventus are keen on the former Borussia Dortmund star.

The report claims that Arsenal have received official approaches from both clubs to sign striker Aubameyang on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Both European giants want to bring him in on a temporary basis to bolster their attacking lines, but it is reportedly unclear what the Gunners will decide.

Arteta advice

Arsenal icon Ray Parlour has told Mikel Arteta to reintegrate Aubameyang back into his thinking.

“Of course they need him,” Parlour told talkSPORT when asked about the former Borussia Dortmund star.

“But you’ve also got to show your dominance as a manager and say you can’t be doing stuff – especially when you have a young team.

As a captain, you’ve got to set a good example, which is very important.

“I’d look up to Tony Adams back in the day and he set the example – and not by going to the pub by the way – but by being on time and making sure when you wear that shirt you play for the team.

“Stuff like that you learn as you go along. But the young players will look at that and see he’s turning up late and not doing this and will be thinking; ‘Can we do that as well?’

“It’s not a good look for Arsenal Football Club. Arteta’s come down strong on him and now it’s all about the reaction, for me. I’d give him another chance because he’s that good and can score you goals.”
