Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been made to look slightly foolish after his reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea lasted just a matter of days.
The Gabonese forward signed for the Blues in the closing hours of the summer transfer window following half a season with Spanish giants Barcelona. The move to Stamford Bridge was set to see him play under former Borussia Dortmund manager Tuchel - the pair having struck up an excellent relationship with the Bundesliga giants.
Upon arriving at Chelsea, Aubameyang said: “It will be an honour and a joy again [to play with Tuchel], we had some good times in Dortmund together so I am really happy to play for him again. We will achieve some big things, I am sure of this and I will try to help the team."
However, that has not lasted particularly long with Chelsea having made the decision to sack Tuchel after a slump in form.
A statement from the west London club on Wednesday morning read: “Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
In the end, Aubameyang only ended up making a solitary appearance for Chelsea with Tuchel as manager as he was handed a start in the Blues’ miserable Champions League defeat at the hands of Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.
The striker ended up playing just under an hour before he was replaced by academy graduate Armando Broja. However, the Albanian could not inspire a comeback with Mislav Orsic’s strike condemning the Londoners to defeat in their first group game of the new campaign.
Aubameyang, 33, penned a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge having made the move from Barcelona and it now remains to be seen who his manager will be for the current season.
Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has immediately been installed as one of the favourites, whilst reports have suggested that Chelsea are eyeing Graham Potter after Brighton & Hove Albion’s impressive start to the new season.
