Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gives verdict on Graham Potter after taking first Chelsea game

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shared his frustration after Chelsea's wait for a Champions league group stage victory continued on Wednesday, but has been positive about new manager Graham Potter.

The Blues had already lost to Dinamo Zagreb on Aubameyang's debut for the club, with owner Todd Boehly sacking Thomas Tuchel after the defeat. Potter took charge of his first game against Red Bull Salzburg, but the Blues couldn't hold on for victory after Raheem Sterling put them in front early in the second half.

Aubameyang spoke about his excitement about being reunited with Tuchel, his former boss at Borussia Dortmund, and was given special reassurances over his role in the team after the German was sacked. The Gabon striker started under Potter on Wednesday, and his first impressions of the new boss are encouraging.

"I think he is a person who is really positive and with a great character," Aubameyang said of the new manager, per The Evening Standard. "We will try to learn with him. We want to win as soon as possible.

"I think his idea is very clear so I think it is going to be easy. I think it takes time to adapt to each other as well but it is going to be okay."

Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona on transfer deadline day, leaving the Catalan club after they moved for Robert Lewandowski over the summer. He has been playing in a mask since moving to Stamford Bridge, having suffered injuries during a home invasion, and has spoken of the role that has played in the early goings.

"I am a bit frustrated about the result," the former Arsenal man said. "We played well and, unfortunately, we needed to score a few more goals to win the game.

"I need more time to recover from my injury. I am not 100%. It is not easy to play with a mask and injury but hopefully, I will get to 100% as soon as possible."

Potter will now have an extended period to work with his squad away from the pitch, while Aubameyang will have time to continue his recovery. Sunday's match against Liverpool has been postponed due to policing issues around the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, meaning the Blues will not be back in action until after the international break.

Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League with 10 points from their first six matches, and are bottom of the pile in their Champions League group. Their next European game is at home to AC Milan on October 5, with the Italian champions coming off a 3-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb at the San Siro.
