Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said that he is ‘absolutely fine’ after undergoing tests following the decision to return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Gabonese forward has left his nation’s camp during the tournament, having displayed some heart problems after testing positive for Covid-19.
Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta confirmed that he was back in north London for further tests, and confirmed that they would assist Aubameyang in getting back to full fitness.
Speaking ahead of Thursday evening’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool, the Spaniard said: “He's in London and going through some examinations because we haven't had any clarity from Gabon about why he came back.
“So it's our obligation to make sure he's safe and in good condition. So far historically with what we've done with the player that's never been an issue.”
Whilst Arteta remained guarded over Aubameyang’s current welfare, the player himself has now offered a positive update on his condition.
Taking to Instagram, the 32-year-old wrote: “Hi guys, I came back to London to do some additional checks, and I’m very happy to say that my heart is absolutely fine and I’m completely healthy!!
“Really appreciate all the messages over the last few days and I’m already back at it.”
Aubameyang’s recall from the Africa Cup of Nations is the latest in what is a lengthy list of intriguing situations for the striker this season.
He had been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach, and has since not been in contention to appear for the Gunners’ first-team.
Meanwhile, there appears to be interest in his services, with the likes of Barcelona and Newcastle being linked, whilst it is also reported that Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr had lodged a loan bid in an effort to secure Aubameyang’s signature.
