Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang describes Thomas Tuchel reunion as ‘an honour and joy’ after Chelsea transfer

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says it will be an “honour and a joy” to reunite with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

The forward completed a late move to Stamford Bridge on a busy deadline for the club after a summer spend to have already broken records.

Aubameyang played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund and the German manager spoke of the player in glowing terms despite an acrimonious end to his Arsenal career just seven months ago. Under Tuchel’s watch, the striker scored 79 goals in 95 games in the Bundesliga.

A move to Barcelona got the Gabon international back on track and the 33-year-old signed a two-year contract in west London, replacing Romelu Lukaku as the club’s big-name central striker.

The clubs had been in protracted talks for weeks but finally stuck a deal during the closing hours of the window, one worth around £12m plus Marcos Alonso.

Speaking after sealing his return to the Premier League, Aubameyang said: “I am feeling very proud. I think this is the best league in the world so I am happy to be here. I’m really excited. I have got some unfinished business in the Premier League so I can’t wait to start.

“This club has a really big history so I am really happy to be part of the club now. From the team, I know Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling and of course Christian Pulisic because I played with him at Dortmund. The other ones I’ve played against so I know a bit about them.

“It will be an honour and a joy again [to play with Tuchel], we had some good times in Dortmund together so I am really happy to play for him again. We will achieve some big things, I am sure of this and I will try to help the team. Come on you blues!"
