Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang contacts Alexandre Lacazette after Arsenal's last-gasp win

Miles apart and now on separate teams, there is still a love that burns deep between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The former Arsenal strike partners enjoyed plenty of special moments together in the red and white Gunners shirt before Aubameyang's bitter exit to Barcelona last month.

But they are still cheering each other on from afar as both forwards were involved in big wins for their sides on Thursday.

Lacazette played a pivotal role in helping Arsenal claw their way from a goal behind at home to Wolves despite trailing with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

The Frenchman played a neat one-two with Bukayo Saka before his cross was inadvertently turned into the visitors' net by Wolves stopper Jose Sa deep into stoppage time after Nicolas Pepe had levelled on 82 minutes.

Lacazette raced off behind the goal in jubilation, sending the home crowd wild as his ecstatic teammates followed in what was a huge victory for their top four hopes.

It was only earlier in the day that news emerged that Arsenal had put contract talks with the 30-year-old on hold until the end of the season, as Lacazette looks to be edging increasingly closer to the exit door this summer when his current deal is due to expire.

Nevertheless, his contribution to the winner was a timely reminder of what he can provide to his team.

Posting on Instagram after the 2-1 win, he wrote: "We believed until the last second ! So proud of my team, the atmosphere was unreal tonight !! Hows that for a celebration."

Various Arsenal players showed their support in the comments, along with ex-teammate Aubameyang, who posted a handshake and love heart emoji in response.

It was a prosperous night for Aubameyang himself over in Naples, where Barcelona steamed into the Europa League last-16 with a 5-3 aggregate win over Napoli.

The Blaugrana won 4-2 on the night at Stadio San Paolo with Aubameyang putting the tie beyond doubt with Barcelona's final goal of the evening, a superb first-time finish into the top corner from Adama Traore's cross.

Writing on his own Instagram after the result, Aubameyang said: "Goals and game. Let's go team."

Lacazette was quick to show his appreciation, commenting three flame emojis underneath with the respect between the pair clear to see.

Regardless of Arsenal securing a vital three points, though, lifelong Gunners fan and TV personality Piers Morgan still took the opportunity to stick the boot in on manager Mikel Arteta following the night's proceedings.

Bemoaning Lacazette's mini drought in front of goal, Morgan tweeted: “Loved our resilience in coming from behind to win, but our main striker hasn’t scored since Boxing Day, while Aubameyang is banging them in for fun at Barca.

"Losing him was a massive loss and so unnecessary."

Letting Aubameyang go on a free transfer mid-season without a replacement could yet come back to haunt Arsenal, though the win puts them in a good position to qualify for the Champions League next term.

They currently sit fifth in the table, one point off the coveted top four spots behind Manchester United, but boasting two games in hand over the Red Devils.
