Pierce Brosnan keeps "Irish charm" for Co Down fans

The booking was under Brosnan - Pierce Brosnan, and the former James Bond actor had a license to thrill in Co Down on Thursday afternoon.

The Hollywood star's stealth cover was blown the moment he was recognised on entering the Fontana restaurant in Holywood.

"We knew he was going to be calling in, he's in the area for five or six weeks filming," said Adam Stockman from the restaurant.

"So I think he was looking to check out eateries in the area.

"He touched base with us beforehand so we knew he was coming in today, so delighted to have him in obviously, to be the first restaurant in the area that he's dined with."

It wasn't the only first according to Adam, who revealed an interesting fact about the actor who is well-known on these shores.

"He's literally just landed in NI, the first time he's ever been in the country, which I was surprised about myself," he said.

"He came in for lunch along with his personal assistant and he had a lovely couple of hours with us.

"He was friendly and chatting to customers and staff and he went across to chat with some ladies at table, had the craic with them and had a few photographs taken.

"So he was up for a bit of chat and he wasn't sitting back not wanting to talk to people.

"He was extremely down to earth and he's certainly not lost any of that Irish charm."

And as for his drink of choice with lunch - was it Bond's famous "shaken, not stirred" directive?

"No he didn't actually no, he had a glass of white wine with his food!," he laughed.

"We're actually going to be putting on a martini this weekend, just in line with his visit, we'll have that special on this weekend."

Fans of the actor and his work will be surely keeping a (Golden) eye out for him in Co Down in the coming weeks.
