Pie 'superfan' travels from Kent to Lancashire to spend £150 on pies

A pie ‘superfan’ travelled all the way from Kent to Preston and then proceeded to spend £150 on pies, according to LancsLive. And the man made the herculean journey in order to sample one pie in particular.

Gornalls Pies are sold, among other places across the north, by Redmans of Preston, the famous delicatessen located in Preston Market. Owner Sandra Steel told how the pasty-fixated gentleman drove all the way from the seaside town of Margate, via Wales to pick up his mother, before arriving at Redmans.

The journey, without the Welsh detour, is a solid 316 miles one way, and can take over five hours. He then proceeded to splash the cash on the Preston-made delicacies.

"He spent £150 on pies," Sandra said. "We often get people spending £50, £80 on pies and we sell out of them every day."

Sandra, who sells 2000 pork pies in Christmas week alone, added that they also get customers travelling from the slightly closer Merseyside and Cumbria for the Gornalls Pies, which are made in its bakery on New Hall Lane.

The pies are also a bargain, with their renowned meat and potato costing £2.10, the butter pies at £1.95 and the plain beef pie just £1.45.

Redmans of Preston is a family business, which has been running since 1945. Originally selling eggs to the folk of Preston, it now sells everything from pies and cakes to hot meals, sandwiches, carveries, hams and other cooked meats.

It also has a strong line in local delicacies like ‘parched peas’, boiled black peas that are served with vinegar. You can also sit in and have a fry up.
