Pictures have shown the extent of a large car fire which closed part of the M1. Highways East Midlands said a significant car fire in an emergency bay closed three lanes on the M1 south J29a to J29 at 3.42pm on Sunday, November 13.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Derbyshire Police and traffic officers were called to scene. When they arrived they found a blaze which had produced a wide smoke trail across the motorway.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at around 3.54pm as delays built up due to the continued closure of three lanes. At least two fire engines were pictured dealing with the fire.

At 4.08pm two lanes were opened past the scene of the earlier car fire. Two lanes remained closed whilst the fire service dampened the car down.
All lanes were open by 4.48pm and delays eased in the area. It is not known whether anyone was injured in the incident.
