Pictures show extent of large car fire on M1 which partially closed motorway

Pictures have shown the extent of a large car fire which closed part of the M1. Highways East Midlands said a significant car fire in an emergency bay closed three lanes on the M1 south J29a to J29 at 3.42pm on Sunday, November 13.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Derbyshire Police and traffic officers were called to scene. When they arrived they found a blaze which had produced a wide smoke trail across the motorway.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at around 3.54pm as delays built up due to the continued closure of three lanes. At least two fire engines were pictured dealing with the fire.
