Pictures and video show Bridgend's police station being razed to the ground

The demolition of a former police station in Bridgend has now begun to make way for the construction of the new Bridgend College campus in the town centre.

One person posted a video of the police station being ripped apart to their Youtube channel. The video has already had over 2,600 views, with lots of people showing an interest in the demolition, which is part of Bridgend County Borough Council’s regeneration plans for the town centre. The video shows Cardiff Demolition Company tearing the building down. Clouds of dust can be seen coming off the walls as the bricks crumble.

The area is fenced off to ensure that it is all being done safely, as is the footpath next to the station. Plans for a 131,000 square foot campus at the site of a former police station and multi-storey parking garage in the town of Cheapside, Bridgend, worth £50 million, were presented to the council's planning committee in November 2022.

According to the designs, the new facility would relocate from the college's current campus on Cowbridge Road, housing more than 850 post-16 students. It would include a 200-seat auditorium, coffee shop and flexible meeting rooms. It is envisaged that, if given the go-ahead by council leaders, construction on the campus will start this year and be finished by the 2025 school year, boosting the town's economy by bringing in more visitors.

The idea is that it will be a significant investment into the skills and training of young people in Bridgend and members of the community who need opportunities to retrain and gain valuable employability skills. This investment is also partially funded by the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning programme.

The council’s Neelo Farr said: "The new college campus which will cater for at least 1,000 staff and students will be a catalyst for the wider regeneration in the area, increasing footfall and supporting local businesses. Meanwhile our plans for developing enhanced public transport will make it easier for people to access its facilities."
