'Physically sick': Donald Trump invite to Scotland slammed

THE deputy leader of the Green Party has panned Donald Trump’s invite to Scotland.

The US President was invited to Balmoral to discuss plans for a state visit. Trump accepted the invitation to visit the UK in the “near future” following a crunch meeting with the Prime Minister at the White House.

Starmer handed Trump a letter from the King as the two were facing cameras in the Oval Office ahead of the more in-depth talks.

Trump showed the letter, marked “private and confidential” and featuring Charles’s signature, to the cameras gathered in the Oval Office.

Reacting to the invitation, deputy leader of the Green Party Zack Polanski slammed the decision over Trump’s stances on Gaza and Ukraine.

He said on Twitter/X: “This man has been talking about - and fully intends to - ethnically cleanse Gaza. And here is Keir Starmer absolutely fawning over him. Anyone else feel physically sick to see this?

He continued: “Trump and Starmer are meeting for crunch talks on Ukraine, trade and technology, with the Prime Minister set to push his US counterpart on the idea of a US “backstop” for any peace deal with Kyiv.”

In a separate post he continued: “You can invite a man that endorses genocide and praises tyrants to the country. You can pretend that homophobia, racism and misogyny are all ok - in the name of 'diplomacy.'"

His feelings were echoed by the Scottish Greens, which posted on social media: “Donald Trump's administration is currently threatening the territorial integrity of Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Panama, and the ethnic cleansing of Gaza.”

During the same conference Trump said British troops "can take care of themselves" when asked if the US would come to the UK’s aid amid any potential Russian attacks while keeping the peace in Ukraine.

He told reporters: “You know, I’ve always found about the British – they don’t need much help. They can take care of themselves very well.

“The British have been incredible soldiers, incredible military, and they can take care of themselves.”

This follows Keir Starmer calling for a US security backstop in Ukraine to 'deter' Russia from invading should a peace deal be struck.
