Local runners are invited to join around 8,000 competitors from 40 countries in the 2023 Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon on June 10 and 11.
The award-winning Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon is one of the longest-running international sports events on the island and is open to participants of all ages and abilities from children and families, and top talent across Thailand and from overseas.
Organised by GAA Events, the Phuket marathon has set the gold standard for 17 years. It's also internationally certified by IAAF AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) and becomes a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.
This year's event has a new race format, with the 2km kids run (for children aged 12 years old and below), 5km and 10.5km scheduled for the morning of June 10 while the next morning will feature the half marathon (21km with minimum age of 16), marathon relay (42.1km) and marathon (42.1km with minimum age of 18).
Set in a festival atmosphere, the race will start and finish at Laguna Grove of Laguna Phuket. The famously scenic course will take runners past local villages, fruit plantations and through the beachfront Sirinat National Park.
Set to join in the marathon distance this year will be popular Thai actor and singer Somchai Kemglad, aka Tao Somchai.
There will also be an expo running on the same premises from June 9-11, with a multitude of sports brands and other exhibitors selling everything from running shoes, apparel, running watches, sports gels, energy drinks and eyewear.
