The Boston Celtics knew the New York Knicks would come out swinging in their reprisal of the two Atlantic Division ball club’s season opener at TD Garden on Monday night, and the Knicks were happy to oblige as New York jumped out to an early lead.
But the Celtics shook themselves awake late in the second quarter, dialing up their defensive intensity and focus to take the lead at the end of the game’s third frame, never to trail again. The Celtics won 114-98 on the strength of their ball movement, their 10-assist lead over New York generating clean looks that led to a 50.6% shooting night from the field, and 44.2% from deep.
