The Boston Celtics made the trip to New York City’s Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks for Game 1 of their 2023-24 NBA season, and the new-look Celtics big debut went much like their season opener vs. New York went in 2021-22 — ugly, intense, and very nearly a disaster. But for Boston this time around, the team’s new additions of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis held it down in crunchtime on both ends of the floor to secure the 108-104 win for the Celtics.
Jayson Tatum (34 points, 11 rebounds) led Boston, and Porzingis (30 points, 8 boards, 4 blocks) shone brightlt in his Boston debut. Derrick White (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Jaylen Brown (11 points, 6 boards, 5 assists) also helped get the victory on a night their shots were not falling.
