The 27-year-old victim sustained injuries to his face and reported what happened to the police.

The force is investigating and has since released an image of a man they would like to speak to.

Officers have appealed for the man to come forward or for anyone who recognises him to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers have been carrying out a range of enquiries into the incident, reviewed CCTV footage, and now have identified a man who they would like to speak to.

"He was in the area at the time of the incident and may have information that can assist with the investigation.
