The Phoenix Suns made a significant move on Wednesday night, acquiring center Nick Richards and a second-round pick in 2025 from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for guard Josh Okogie and three future second-round draft picks.

Richards, a 7-foot center, brings much-needed depth to the Suns' frontcourt as they aim to solidify their position in the Western Conference. In his five seasons with the Hornets, Richards averaged 7.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, making 74 starts during his tenure.

The Kentucky product was originally selected by the New Orleans Pelicans in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft before being traded to Charlotte on draft night. His presence is expected to bolster the Suns' interior play and provide a reliable option in the paint.

In return, the Hornets receive guard Josh Okogie, who has played 401 games over seven NBA seasons, including the last three with the Suns. Okogie has averaged 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists throughout his career, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the floor.

Additionally, Charlotte acquires multiple future draft picks, including selections from the Denver Nuggets in 2026 and 2031, as well as a 2025 second-round pick from Phoenix. The Hornets also send a 2025 second-round pick, the least favorable between Denver and the Philadelphia 76ers, to the Suns, enhancing their draft assets for future roster building.

With the Hornets currently holding an 8-28 record, General Manager Jeff Peterson emphasized the importance of flexibility and optionality provided by the acquired draft picks. Peterson hinted at the possibility of further trades to shape the team's direction and strengthen their long-term prospects.

As both teams look to address their respective needs and position themselves for success, the trade between the Suns and the Hornets sets the stage for potential roster improvements and strategic maneuvers in the competitive landscape of the NBA.
