Phoenix Planned Parenthood now provides vasectomies

Planned Parenthood of Arizona (PPAZ) will begin offering vasectomies at its central Phoenix health center Tuesday.

Why it matters: The organization said it has seen heightened demand for the procedure — especially from metro Phoenix — following abortion restrictions enacted in the fallout of the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade.

By the numbers: In the wake of the decision, the number of abortions performed in Arizona fell by 16%, based on a comparison of 2020 and 2023 Guttmacher Institute data.

Flashback: PPAZ launched its first vasectomy program in southern Arizona last March.

  • According to the organization, there's been huge demand and more than half of patients traveled from metro Phoenix to access the procedure.

What they're saying: "We remain staunchly committed to our mission of protecting and expanding reproductive health care access in Arizona and responding to the needs of our community," PPAZ chief medical officer Jill Gibson said in a statement.

How it works: Patients can call (602) 277-7526 to make an appointment.

  • PPAZ accepts insurance, or the procedure costs $750 without it.
