Phoebe Bridgers has sparked speculation that she has split from Paul Mescal after she was reportedly spotted “flirting” with comedian Bo Burnham.
Bridgers and the Irish actor, 26, sparked engagement rumours in April when it was reported by The Sun that the 28-year-old singer had referred to Mescal as her “fiancé” at Coachella.
However, the Kyoto hitmaker has set tongues wagging about a possible split after she and Burnham were spotted “canoodling and cuddling” at several locations in LA in recent weeks.
According to Deux U podcast, they were seen at local bar The Magic Castle, and at a The 1975 concert, in which they posed for a photo that saw Bridgers playfully kissing the band’s frontman Matty Healy.
The pair, who have been friends since 2021, furthered this dating speculation when they sat next to each other at Kate Berlant’s one-woman comedy show on Monday in New York.
Comedian Burnham, 32, is said to have given the singer his “undivided and doting attention” before the show, that he was directing, got cancelled due to technical difficulties.
"It felt flirtatious, like he was trying to impress her," a reporter at Jezebel, who attended the gig, claimed.
The Standard has approached Paul Mescal, Phoebe Bridgers and Bo Burnham’s representatives for comment.
Last month, Bridgers and Mescal sent their fans into a tizzy over reports that they were engaged.
The news was initially confirmed by the Guardian, which published an interview with Mescal asserting that he and the singer “are now engaged”.
However, the outlet updated the profile to say the pair “are reported to be engaged”.
While neither Bridgers nor Mescal confirmed the reports, fans took to social media to express enthusiasm for their potential engagement, with many recanting how Bridgers met the Aftersun actor via Twitter during lockdown.
In May 2020, the Punisher hitmaker tweeted about the BBC mini-series and wrote: “Finished Normal People and now I’m sad and horny oh wait.”
The post kicked off a Twitter exchange between them when Mescal replied, “I’m officially dead” and Bridgers sweetly commented, “nooo don’t die your so talented aha”.
Mescal then interviewed Bridgers for a lockdown livestream, and went on to star in her video for Savior Complex.
They officially confirmed their relationship in November 2021 when they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2021 LACMA Art + Film Gala.
