Phoebe Bridgers has announced the death of her father.
The Punisher singer-songwriter announced the sad news as she shared an old photo of herself with her late dad on Instagram.
"Rest in peace dad,” she captioned the moving post.
Bridgers, 28, who recently split with Irish actor Paul Mescal, didn't share any further information regarding the cause of his passing.
Fans and famous friends rushed to console the star in the wake of her Instagram post in the early hours of this morning.
Chicken Shop Date presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg - who recently interviewed Bridgers - was one of the first to comment on the singer's sad update, writing: "So sorry Phoebe, sending you love and strength."
One fan told the grieving star: "I recently lost my dad too. I think it’s harder when you have a rocky relationship with them. Sending hugs your way."
In a previous interview with GQ, Bridgers detailed how she had a complicated relationship with her father.
The star wrote her hit song Kyoto about him and opened up about the meaning of its lyrics in an interview with NPR in 2020, claiming her dad was "emotionally unavailable, but very present in a weird way".
Referring to the ‘Kyoto’ line "I’m gonna kill you/ If you don’t beat me to it", Amelia recently asked Bridgers during an episode of Chicken Shop Date whether she still wanted to kill her dad. The singer replied: "No."
Towards the end of 2020, Bridgers revealed how the Covid-19 pandemic and global lockdowns had seen her reunite with her once estranged father - explaining during a conversation with The Line Of Best Fit how: "It’s strange, but it’s been really nice."
Bridgers' parents divorced when she was 20 and the singer had previously claimed her late father battled drug addictions and had also been abusive when she was younger.
During her recent Chicken Shop Date, the singer hinted at her recent relationship breakups with journalist Amelia - following rumours surrounding her split from Normal People actor Mescal.
"You just have to do it. And it's gonna end at some point but you can't make it end, that's my tip," Bridgers explained when asked to share advice for dealing with heartbreak.
When quizzed about what she has learned from heartbreak, the star added: "I think if I had figured that out, I wouldn't be making music still."
Neither Bridgers or Mescal have confirmed or denied rumours of a split. Bridgers has been linked to comedian Bo Burnham over recent weeks.
