Phillip Schofield replaced by Stephen Mulhern on Dancing on Ice after Covid test blow

Phillip Schofield has been left gutted at having to miss Sunday's Dancing on Ice due to Covid, as Stephen Muhern gets set to replace him.

Phillip revealed late on Monday night that he tested positive for the virus, posting a LFT with two red lines on his Instagram story along with the words: "Well b*******!! Currently just a slightly sore throat."

Getting coronavirus has meant the popular presenter hasn't been in This Morning studio for most of this week, although he did appear via video call from his home on Tuesday's episode, telling Rochelle Humes and his replacement, Alison Hammond, that apart from a bit of temperature, he felt fine.

Phillip did however admit that it would be touch and go whether he' be able to host Sunday's Dancing on Ice, with him needing two negative test results to get out of isolation in time.

And, unfortunately for Phillip, he was still testing positive on Saturday, with ITV confirming that Catchphrase and In For A Penny star Stephen would replace him on Dancing on Ice this week.

A short statement read: "This Sunday's episode of Dancing on Ice will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern while Phillip Schofield continues to self-isolate."

Phillip took to Instagram to post two positive lateral flow tests and wrote: "Did two just to be absolutely sure," expressing his upset with a crying emoji.

He added: "Sorry Dancing on Ice. Have an amazing show Stephen Mulhern. It's SO much fun."

Reacting to his unexpected new role, Stephen said: "I’m very much looking forward to being back hosting alongside my good friend Holly this weekend. It’s big shoes to fill and I’m wishing Phillip a speedy recovery.

"I’m a big fan of Dancing on Ice and for one night only I’m thrilled to be rink side watching the action unfold. It’s going to be unbelievable!"
