Phillip Schofield tests negative for coronavirus after missing work for a week

Phillip Schofield shared the exciting news that his coronavirus Lateral Flow test came back negative after he was forced to miss work for a week.

The This Morning presenter was replaced by Alison Hammond and Vernon Kay after he revealed to fans that he tested positive for Covid last Monday.

He had been isolating at home since then but it seems like the worst of it is finally over.

The 59-year-old was over the moon as he took to his Instagram Stories to share a picture of his negative Lateral Flow test.

"Oh hello! What do we have here?" he shared while adding a fingers crossed sticker.

However, just a few hours before, the star was disappointed when another test he did showed a faint positive result.

Due to the negative result hours later, it could mean that the TV personality is no longer contagious or, hopefully, free of the virus.

"OH COME ON!!! This is getting so bloody dull now!!! Day 7. I am seriously going out after this," he had written.

Fans may be curious to know when the star will most likely return to his usual slot on This Morning as well as Dancing On Ice.

As he already isolated for a week, he now simply needs two negative lateral flow tests.

Current Covid rules in England allow those testing positive for Covid to leave isolation after five days – provided lateral flow tests give negative results on days five and six.

When he first tested positive, Phillip said he was only suffering from a sore throat.

Despite being forced to take time off the show, he was still involved in a few chats throughout the week.

Last week, Phillip joined Alison and guest presenter Rochelle Humes via video link on the morning talk show.

Revealing he felt fine physically, Phil said: “I’m fine, I haven’t even got a sore throat now. I sneezed twice and that’s it!”

Just this morning, Phillip chatted to Alison and co-host Holly Willoughby and opened up about how bored he was.

Holly said: “We obviously missed you hugely on Dancing on Ice. That was so weird. I’ve never ever done that show with anyone else apart from you.”

Phillip replied saying he was “absolutely perfectly okay”.

He added: “A week ago I had a slightly scratchy throat for an hour which prompted me to test and it came up positive and it's been positive ever since - but I feel great.

“I’ve ploughed my way through box sets, I’ve been cooking, I’ve been wandering around thinking what should I do next, I’ve sat in the garden for about half an hour because the sun came out, but I’m locked in.”

He then went to say that he was bored 'out of my brain.'
