Phillip Schofield speaks out 24 hours after Holly Willoughby's swearing blunder on ITV's This Morning

Phillip Schofield has responded a whole 24 hours after his move led This Morning viewers to think Holly Willoughby swore live on the show. The hosting duo wrapped up their week on the ITV daytime show on Thursday (January 26) as they hand over the reins to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on a Friday.

During their last stint of the show of the week, Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were joined live in the studio by actors Rupert Grint and Ben Aldridge, who were on hand to talk about their new thriller, Knock At The Cabin.

"What would you do if you had to make a decision that would affect life as we know it across the world?" Phillip asked in a teaser for their interview with the film's stars. Holly then continued with a slight look of concern: "Well, that's the premise of the new film 'Knock at the Cabin' which asks one family to make an impossible choice."

It is then when Phillip decided to play a bit of a prank on his co-host and friend as he went on: "Before we find out more from its stars Rupert Grint and Ben Aldrich here’s a little bit of what to..." but instead of finishing the sentence he made a noise right into Holly's face, making her jump back away from him.

As the crew started to laugh, Phillip said with a smug grin: "I haven't done that for a while," while Holly stood with her hand to her mouth. "Ah, it's perfect," Phillip added as Holly let out a sigh. .He continued: “Here’s a little bit of what to expect for those of a nervous disposition."

"Oh, I’ll go away then," Holly declared before shouting: "Bye," as she waved and walked off behind the camera, leaving Phil laughing and telling his co-host to 'get a cushion' before the footage aired.

While that was happening, This Morning viewers were flocking to social media to comment as they were convinced Holly dropped - or nearly dropped - the 'F-bomb' due to her scare. The clip of the moment was also shared to the programme's official Instagram page which Phillip also shared during his day off on Friday (January 27).

"Nearly made @hollywilloughby drop the f bomb," he captioned the post to which This Morning's account replied: "Nearly!" with a roll on the floor laughing emoji. A caption across the video also read: "So close." Holly, however, is yet to respond.

It came before those tuning in to the show believed Holly was left 'annoyed' by a comment made by her co-host and friend. Wrapping up their chat with Rupert and Ben, Phillip said: "Listen guys, it's lovely to see you. Thank you for coming on," before promoting the film's release date. "Holly will be straight at the front of the queue," Phillip quipped. "I'll be there... under a pillow," Holly replied.

And while Phillip was referring to the fact that Holly isn't a fan of those types of films after he made her jump earlier in the show, This Morning viewers couldn't help but refer back to the pair's queue scandal which rocked them both last September following the death of the Queen.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, people complained and launched a petition to have Holly and Phillip removed from the show after the duo were accused of 'pushing in' to see Her Majesty lying in state. But ITV bosses were quick to deny those reports and said they were actually working at the time.
