Phillip Schofield shares backstage love notes left for him at Dancing On Ice

Phillip Schofield has revealed that a secret admirer was leaving him love notes behind the scenes of Dancing On Ice.

The latest round of ITV’s winter sport reality competition took place on Sunday night – just hours before Valentine’s Day celebrations began.

But someone working on the show clearly had amorous feelings and left adorable love notes back stage – much to the delight of 59-year-old singleton Phillip.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the This Morning host – who doubles up as a Dancing On Ice host – shared snaps of the notes that had been left for him to find.

He shared a photo of a heart shaped red note that featured a pun-tastic message that read: “If you were a chicken, you’d be impeck-able.”

Sharing his delight at the message, Phil wrote alongside the photo: “Loving the little notes posted anonymously backstage @dancingonice” – along with a heart face emoji.

A second shot showed another note that read: “You are a ray of sunshine.”

Again delighted, Phil shared the photo and wrote: “On my dressing room door” – this time with two heart face emojis.

While love was seemingly in the air on Sunday evening, unfortunately for contestant Liberty Poole and her dance partner Joe Johnson they ended up on the floor.

An ambitious lift performed by the 22-year-old Love Island star and 27-year-old professional skater Joe ended in disaster.

Joe scooped 22-year-old Liberty into the air to flip her around his body, but his skate caught hers when she returned a leg to the ice – sending them both crashing flat to the ground.

The mistake cost them their place in the contest, but Liberty said as she left the show: "I've honestly enjoyed every second and I'm proud of myself because I pushed myself this week. I just want to thank everyone behind the scenes for always being there to support me."

Elsewhere, viewers faces were coloured red – with fury, rather than passion – when 25-year-old celebrity offspring Regan Gascoigne, who is the son of 54-year-old football legend Paul, topped the leaderboard despite stumbling around the ice.

Show judge Oti Mabuse said during her feedback: “It is okay to stumble. It makes you human, so well done for carrying on after that.”

But Christopher Dean said: “That was going to be the skate of the series for me, but you make a stumble and your marks go down.”

Nonetheless, Regan scored 9s from the judges – provoking outrage from viewers.

One, taking to Twitter, wrote: “#DancingOnIce Regan is one of my absolute favourites but you can’t get a 9.5 following 3 mistakes.”

Another agreed, adding: “How did Regan get 9s when he stumbled THREE TIMES? #DancingOnIce”

And a third wrote: “9.5?? You having a laugh Jayne? #DancingOnIce,” as a further viewer tweeted: “9s and a 9.5? when he stumbled 3x? the score inflation this year is mad #DancingOnIce”

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday night on ITV and via the ITV Hub at 6pm.
