Phillip Schofield sent 'remorseful' text to Holly Willoughby that didn't get a reply

Phillip Schofield has revealed he has been in touch with Holly Willoughby in the midst of the huge scandal surrounding him and This Morning, but has yet to receive any response to the message her sent her.

As well as working together on This Morning for over a decade, Phillip and Holly were famously close off screen too, enjoying boozy lunches, nights out and holidays with their families but, last month it was reported that the two had had a 'falling out' away from cameras, with Phillip then leaving This Morning after a week of growing speculation.

He then made headlines six days later when he confessed to an affair with a much younger ITV runner and admitted to lying to his family, bosses, work colleagues, agents and lawyers about what he called an 'unwise but not illegal' relationship.

Prior to her This Morning return on Monday, Holly had kept her reactions to Phillip's announcements brief, but at the end of last week, he spoke openly and candidly about the affair and all of the allegations aimed at him, in a sit down interview with the BBC.

And, as well as maintaining that nothing sexual happened between himself and the colleague in question until the man was 20, Phillip explained that he had reached out to apologise to Holly.

Sharing the contents of the message which he said he didn't expect her to respond to, Phillip explained: "The last time we had a conversation was when I texted Holly and said 'Don’t reply, you’re probably not allowed to, but I am deeply deeply sorry that I lied to you,.'

While Holly didn't get back to Phillip, she did address everything that's been going on in an opening statement as she returned to host This Morning on Monday.

Saying it felt 'strange' to be presenting without Phillip, she added: "You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves, felt like they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career they loved."
