Phillip Schofield sends message to Holly Willoughby as Josie Gibson gets 'role she deserves' on ITV This Morning

Phillip Schofield sent a message to his co-host Holly Willoughby as she's forced to miss the show.

The presenter was absent from the ITV daytime programme on Monda y after also having to skip her hosting duties on Dancing On Ice on Sunday night after testing positive for coronavirus.

It was announced hours before the semi-finals of the skating competition that Holly, 41, had tested positive for the virus with Phillip left to host the show alone due to it being too short notice to find a replacement.

There was, however, more time for This Morning to find Phillip, 59, a co-host and he appeared on the first show of the week alongside Josie Gibson.

It isn't the first time the pair have hosted the popular programme together with Josie stepping in for Holly at the eleventh hour late last year after she was struck down with a stomach bug.

After welcoming viewers to Monday's show, Phillip said: "Well we are absolutely convinced Holly and I that having worked all the way through everything, that we might be immune. And then it got me a few weeks ago, and over the weekend it's got Holly.

"So she's tested positive and she’s at home watching, and it's the weirdest thing in the world when you can't do it and you're watching it from home," he added after he had to miss out on both Dancing On Ice and This Morning last month.

Addressing Holly directly, the host then said: "Holly, get well soon. Get back as quick as you can, but I'm in very, very safe hands. So have a good day, and we miss you."

Josie also sent her love to 'Hols' and gave thumbs up when Phillip suggested he was in her safe hands.

And This Morning viewers were more than happy to see the former Big Brother winner back at the helm of the show.

@StephsMoansx tweeted: "YAY we love Queen Josie, finally getting the presenting roles she deserves #thismorning."

"Feels better already with our lovely Josie on her rightful throne… #ThisMorning," @MadameMinge said.

@timmyhoop1982 commented: "@ITV we need more Josie #ThisMorning."

"Absolutely love @Josiestweet and @Schofe together on @thismorning," @Mrs_Doodles wrote.

@WilloughbyFanx added: "#Thismorning so glad @Josiestweet is hosting with @Schofe but @hollywills will be missed."
