Phillip Schofield's shut down by actor during ITV This Morning interview over relationship probe

Phillip Schofield couldn't end his and Holly Willoughby's This Morning interview with Taika Waititi without asking about the rumours he is engaged to singer Rita Ora. The actor was on the ITV daytime show on Monday (June 13) alongside Chris Evans.

The pair were on hand to promote their new film Lightyear, a prequel to the Toy Story tale which is supposed to be the favorite movie of Andy who owned Buzz in the Pixar movies. It tells the origin story of the real Buzz Lightyear as he takes on a Space Ranger mission for Star Command.

While Chris lends his voice to Buzz Lightyear himself. Taika Waititi introduces viewers to ranger Mo Morrison for Pixar’s 26th animated feature film. The pair appeared on the ITV daytime show live from a London hotel suite to chat about the release and their roles in the movie.

However, earlier in their chat, Chris was sent birthday wishes as he celebrated his 41st birthday by promoting his latest role. This led Phillip, 60, to ask towards the end of the interview: "Well, we've congratulated Chris on his birthday... so Taika are there wedding bells?"

Taika was soon interrupting him and said: "You can congratulate me! It's in August! Let's talk about my birthday!" He then ended up pulling out his earpiece and said: "What? Sorry, you're breaking up!" before adding: "Nope, gone!" as he threw the hearing piece behind him.

Phillip still tried his best to get his question to Taika about his and Rita's current relationship status when he asked: "Shall I not ask about Rita?" to which Holly remarked: "I think he can't hear us!"

"Regardless, she's gorgeous, we love her here, she's always a great guest and congratulations!" Phillip said as Taika saluted the hosts back in the ITV studio before he and Chris disappeared for what will likely be another interview and the hosts carried on with the show.

But it wasn't all as dramatic as it seemed as, during the brilliantly comical chat, Taika complained that his earpiece was loose and that's why he kept fiddling with it as he and Chris spoke to Holly and Phil.

Some This Morning viewers, however, did find it 'awkward'. @IndyFlint tweeted: "That interview with @TaikaWaititi and @ChrisEvans was so awkward. Imagine ending it by trying to ask about Rita when they’re promoting a film, no wonder he pulled his ear piece out #ThisMorning."

@conormckenna101 commented: "This interview is SO awkward. They both seem like they’ve gone through a hundred interviews this morning and have just had enough. Painful! #thismorning." @philippamcleod echoed: "Well this is an awkward interview #thismorning #buzzlightyear."
