Phillip Schofield's most dramatic This Morning exits - Holly blunders and missed cues

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has sensationally QUIT despite reports suggesting he was going to " tough it out ".

The Mirror previously reported that ITV bosses had become increasingly fed up with the tension between Holly and Phillip and they were prepared to sack him should their feud continue.

In a statement announcing his decision to walk away, he acknowledged this admitting that the drama cannot continue.

But this isn't the first time things have got a bit heated. Over the years Phillip has become known for his dramatic and hilarious storm-offs, often leaving his co-star Holly Willoughby in shock with his gags...

Holly's mix-up

Holly gasped as she realised she'd made an error (ITV)

In an episode from May last year, Phillip ran for the exit after Holly burst out laughing when she made a teleprompter fail, leaving her with her head in her hands.

After the duo completed their competition segment, Holly said: "Right, we're talking to Joey Essex in just a moment but before we do, another chance for you to win."

After a pause, an awkward-looking Holly added: "And there's a prize worth over £135,000..." before giving up and laughing.

Phil raised his eyebrows at her as Holly gasped and said: "I just read loads of numbers!"

She continued: "One hundred and thirty-five thousand pounds up for grabs and Josie's got all the details."

Phillip then jokingly stormed off the set as if he had just given up.

Autocue jokes

On another occasion, in March 2023, Phillip walked away from the cameras after Holly made another mistake while reading the autocue.

She said the duo would be "leaving the room" for an Easter egg segment before correcting her mistake, admitting that she was supposed to say "leave room".

"Leave the room? Let's hope we leave...," Holly quipped before her This Morning co-host interjected: "Let's hope we leave room."

"Oh! Leave room not leave the room, I get you," Holly laughed before the production team gave This Morning viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the ITV show by turning the cameras to the presenters' autocue.

Phillip then sassily poked fun at his co-presenter and hit out at the camera operators for showing the autocue and said: " Don't transmit the autocue, if you just show the autocue there's no need for you.

"We can run the autocue, you can read it at home," Phillip exclaimed. "Read it for yourself, bye bye."

Timing issues

In March 2020, Phillip again jokingly stormed off the set after a series of embarrassing mistakes, and admitted he was "holding on by his fingernails".

It all began after an ad break when none of the presenters started speaking on cue, leaving an awkward silence.

After a brief pause, Phillip realised what had happened and rushed to tell viewers: "Welcome back. Still to come on This Morning..."

Glad that she hadn't dropped the ball, a giggling Holly added: "I had a panic. Normally it is me forgetting. I thought, 'oh my God I'm forgetting to talk on the telly again.'"

With his head in his hands, Phil admitted: "I was just watching TV. Then I realised it's me, I'm on it."

Phillip once said he was 'hanging on by his fingernails' (ITV)

Phillip continued to struggle on for a while while introducing the next segment, but made another slip and announced he "needed a drink" before standing up and walking off the set.

Now, amid an ongoing fracas at ITV, it is being reported that bosses have held a 'crisis talk' after Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's appearance on This Morning yesterday.

The former TV besties reunited on screen amid reports of a 'feud' between the pair, as it was claimed their friendship has 'cooled' following a series of issues in recent months from backlash over queue-gate and Holly's alleged upset that she was unaware of Phillip's brother's trial ahead of time.

Phil recently returned to the show, which pulls in around two million viewers, after taking leave around his brother Timothy's sex abuse trial at Exeter Crown Court last month.
