Phillip Schofield's distinctive feature he claims he was 'forced' to hide by ITV boss

A clip of Phillip Schofield claiming he was told to change one of his features by an ITV boss has resurfaced as the This Morning saga continues. Last week, long-standing presenter Phillip Schofield quit the series following a reported feud with co-star Holly Willoughby, then later he admitted to having an "unwise" but "not illegal" affair with a "much younger" colleague whilst working on the show.

Since then, everyone from former guests to ex-hosts have been sharing their thoughts on the show, opening up about things which have heightened the controversy around the show. As reported by The Mirror, an old clip of Phillip has now resurfaced where he reveals he was forced into the "grey closet" by ITV, who he said made him dye his hair before he went on screen.

Phillip previously said he started going grey when he was 16, like his mum, and by the time he was 19 he need to dye his hair to hide it. Speaking on Kem Cetinay's Kem Cuts in 2019, Phillip said: "Well the thing is 16 and I was getting grey hairs – my mum went grey when she was 16. By the time I was nineteen, I was colouring it and I went to live in New Zealand and that is when I dyed my hair.

"For the first time at 19 – and it was covered up for absolutely ages – and I'm not sure I've said this out loud before so you have a bit of an exclusive here.

"But I just signed a contract for ITV and I decided to let my hair go and my office got a phone call from the Head of ITV saying: 'Can you please tell him to put it back? We didn't hire a grey guy'."

Phillip added someone else said he looked "like a badger" and he had no choice by to go back "into the grey closet". But since then, Phillip has become found of his hair and he fully embraces his unique look.

On one episode of This Morning, he corrected his former friend Holly Willoughby when she called him "grey-haired", saying: "I like to call it silver as a matter of fact."

Meanwhile, while Phillip's career might currently be in tatters, Piers Morgan has said that he believes the beleaguered presenter will make a TV comeback in the wake of his bombshell revelation on Saturday. The former Good Morning Britain host Piers, 58, thinks the Broom Cupboard star can still have a career in TV.

He said: "I think Phil will be fine because he's a very good presenter and will find a new show." ITV have been contacted for comment.
