Phillip Schofield reveals daughters' support as he's “lost everything”

Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield credits his two daughters, Molly and Ruby, for saving his life. Over the last few weeks the 61-year-old has never been far away from the headlines - firstly due to quitting the flagship ITV show, then announcing that he’d “lied” about an affair with a younger male production runner, read more on this, here.

In an exclusive interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan, Phillip said: “My girls saved my life. They said last week they haven't left me for a moment. They've been by my side every moment because they're scared to let me out of their sight. What is that like for daughters to have to go with something like that?

“And they said to me, don't you dare do this on our watch. We're supposed to be looking after you. If my girls hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here, because I don't see my future.”

Towards the end of the 45 minute interview, which dropped on iPlayer on Friday, June 2, Phillip once again praised his two children. When asked by Amol whether he wanted to say something ‘publicly’ to his daughters Phillip replied: “I called them and said I have something to tell you and they came out to see me and were unbelievable.

“I looked at them and thought, well you got that right and they don’t think you’re a bully, they don’t think you’re toxic, and they know the man you are, and they know you screwed up royally.”

Phillip recalled having an “incredibly difficult conversation” with Molly and Ruby’s mother Stephanie, with whom he said he was now “separated” from after first getting married in 1993. “[It was] the most difficult conversation I’ve ever had to have with her and she is extremely disappointed because I lied to her as well.”

Phillip Schofield: The Interview is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
