Phillip Schofield returns to ITV's This Morning after brother found guilty in court case

This Morning's Phillip Schofield has given thanks to fans for their support as he returned to the show following his brother's conviction over abusing a teenage boy.

The presenter, 61, returned with Rochelle Humes on the sofa this Monday morning.

It marks his return to the ITV daytime show for the first time since his brother Timothy Schofield was convicted of sexually abusing a teenager over the space of three years, The Daily Star reports.

Beginning the programme, Phillip remarked: "I'd just like to say, it is really lovely to be back. I have missed the show and everyone here and also to you."

He thanked fans for their kind messages of support, adding: "On with the show... Shall we?"

Phillip has publicly renounced his brother after his younger sibling was convicted of 11 sexual offences against the juvenile, including two of sexual activity with a child, with the ITV host having to give evidence in court.

In a statement after the guilty verdict was reached, TV presenter Phillip said: "My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected."

He said that if his brother ever would have admitted his crimes to him, he would have alerted the authorities immediately.

"These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts. As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother," he added.

Regular co-host Holly Willoughby was not there with Phillip on his return as she is currently ill with shingles.

The 42-year-old presenter posted on Instagram: "Hi, just to let you know, I may be away for the rest of the week as I have Shingles."

"I'll be back as soon as I'm better. Huge love," she added.

Phillip and Holly present This Morning from Monday to Thursday, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary taking over duties on Fridays.

Rochelle, who was in The Saturday's girl band, was on hand to replace Holly and joined Phillip in the studio for the first episode of the week.
