Phillip Schofield replacement at British Soap Awards confirmed

ITV has confirmed the replacement for Phillip Schofield at this year's British Soap Awards. The former This Morning host quit ITV last week after admitting to an affair with a younger employee at the channel.

He admitted to lying to family, colleagues and management about the relationship as he was also dropped by his label, The Mirror reports. In the statement, he said: "The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning.

"I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning. I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family.

"I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife." He went on to confirm he had resigned from ITV and was stepping down from hosting the Soap Awards.

It has now been confirmed that Jane McDonald will host the awards in his place on Saturday, June 3. The singer and presenter is well known for Channel 5 series Cruising with Jane and has also appeared on ITV programme Loose Women.

The awards will be broadcast on June 6.
