Phillip Schofield raises Dancing on Ice injury concerns as 'dangerous' show returns

Phillip Schofoeld has offered some key advice to contestants taking part in the new series of Dancing on Ice - don't get injured, with his advice coming after the ITV show has claimed a number of casualties over the years.

Since its launch at the start of 2006, the programme has statistically been one of the 'most dangerous' on TV, with a number of celeb skaters and professionals being injured, with some forced to pull out of the show. One of the most infamous came in series one and involved David Seaman, when the England keeper dropped partner Pam O’Connor when attempting the daring head-banger move., with Pam rushed to hospital to have stitches in her skin.

Other Dancing on Ice injuries have included ex Brookside star Jennifer Ellison slicing her head open with her skate while executing a 'scorpion kick' during a performance and pro Yebin Mok, who was forced to pull of the show in 2021, when Graham Bell's blade stabbed her in the shin in a freak accident.

The new series starts on Sunday and when asked if he had any advice or this year's contestants, presenter Phillip said: "Please don’t hurt yourself. Please don’t fall over in a way that prevents you from actually doing the show! First and foremost, learn how to fall because it’s so easy to forget that this is a really dangerous show. Those skates are blades!"

Urging this year's skating stars not to get carried away on the ice, Phillip added: "We’ve seen some horrible injuries so that is the last thing you want. Skate within your means until your pro says you can go beyond that."

Only half of this year's Dancing on Ice line-up will take to the rink on Sunday's launch show, with the remaining five making their debut on Sunday, January 22.
