Phillip Schofield lifts lid on Covid boredom and loneliness on This Morning phone in

Phillip Schofield has lifted the lid on his coronavirus isolation during another phone-in on ITV ’s This Morning on Monday.

Alison Hammond stepped into Phillip’s hosting shoes alongside Holly Willoughby on the ITV daytime show after he tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

The host confirmed that he had contracted coronavirus last Monday, hours after he had helmed the ITV programme with Rochelle Humes.

The 59-year-old was also absent from Dancing on Ice on Sunday, viewers saw Stephen Mulhern take his place on Sunday night alongside Holly.

However, Phillip took to Instagram to share that he was watching along and held up a drink while writing: “Well this is an experience I never expected!! I'm watching with a G&T.”

As Phillip called in from his London home to Monday’s instalment of This Morning, Holly said: “We obviously missed you hugely on Dancing on Ice. That was so weird. I’ve never ever done that show with anyone else apart from you.”

Phillip replied saying he was “absolutely perfectly okay”.

He added: “A week ago I had a slightly scratchy throat for an hour which prompted me to test and it came up positive and it's been positive ever since - but I feel great.

“I’ve ploughed my way through box sets, I’ve been cooking, I’ve been wandering around thinking what should I do next, I’ve sat in the garden for about half an hour because the sun came out, but I’m locked in.”

His 40-year-old co-host replied saying: “And you’re bored out of your brain?”

Phillip confirmed he was, saying: “Out of my brain.”

Phillip’s temporary replacement Alison, 47, joked that she and Holly have plenty of odd jobs around their houses that Phillip could take on.

Holly said: “I’ve got a shed that needs cleaning out,” as Alison chimed in: “I’ve got a shed you could paint. I’ve literally got so much for you to do.”

Holly went on to say that she nearly sent her dog over to Phillip’s house over the weekend, as he was “so on his own”.

She added: “Then we thought, maybe Bailey could get Covid and send it back to me.”

Phillip continued: “I have cleaned every single cupboard, every single surface, every everything.”

Holly and Alison then said they had “something to cheer you up” to Phillip and brought out a This Morning goodie bag, which included an Alison and Dermot O’Leary jigsaw puzzle.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
