Phillip Schofield issues statement after brother found guilty of sexually abusing teenage boy

Phillip Schofield has issued a statement after his brother was found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy.

Timothy Schofield was charged with 11 sexual offences involving a child between 2016 and 2019, including two of sexual activity with a child. The 54-year-old denied performing sexual acts on the teenager and claimed they watched pornography together and had masturbated while sitting apart.

However, the civilian police worker was found guilty at Exeter Crown Court today. His This Morning presenter brother has taken to Instagram to share a statement after the verdict was reached.

He said: "My overwhelming concern is and has always been for the wellbeing of the victim and his family. I hope that their privacy will now be respected.

"If any crime had ever been confessed to me by my sibling, I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and their family. These are despicable crimes, and I welcome the guilty verdicts. As far as I am concerned, I no longer have a brother."

The 61-year-old broadcaster did not front ITV's flagship daytime programme last week as the channel confirmed he was taking "pre-planned leave".
