Phillip Schofield was quick to step in as he briefly halted This Morning over a Gino D'Acampo 'blunder'. The presenter was back fronting the ITV daytime show on Tuesday (March 7) alongside Holly Willoughby when they were joined by the Italian chef - sort of.
Gino wasn't live in the studio to cause chaos but he was back on-screen as he fronted a brand new segment for the popular programme. In his new series, the cooking star is taking the show's hosts and viewers on an incredible trip to his home on the stunning island of Sardinia.
Kicking things off, Gino was seen visiting Italy’s biggest cork factory before making a delicious creamy vegetable risotto. Teasing viewers as to what was to come on Gino's latest Italian adventure, Phillip, 60, said: "Lots on the way, including an Italian escape with Gino..."
A clip then started to play out and showed Gino talking about wine. He was heard saying: "What I really want to know is why Sardinian cork is so special. And how many corks do you produce a day?" To which the sommelier replied: "More or less, we produce two million corks."
But before viewers could see any more, Phillip jumped in as he corrected Gino's pronunciation of 'cork' in what could have been an X-rated blunder. With the word having been repeated multiple times, the clip abruptly ended and Phillip was quick to jump in, shouting: "No, no, no, stop!"
He continued: "He’s at a cork factory,’ stressing the particular word in question. "It's cork! A wine cork factory in Sardinia." The host then added: "There’s more from Gino and his questionable pronunciation."
And it appears This Morning viewers were hearing just what Phillip was. @coxyhockeychick tweeted: "Cork gino Cork!!! #ThisMorning," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis. @shazabazza said: "I’m not hearing Cork on gino’s segment #thismorning." @StaceyCosens laughed: "Honestly who let Gino do a feature on cork #ThisMorning."
But @Boppity_Boo34 commented: "He’s definitely saying cork #ThisMorning." And @zayneswrlda argued: "Holly and Phil thinking they are funny taking the p**s out of gino for saying cork, he said it fine and also it’s not his first language #ThisMorning."
@djrustynail also complained: "Gino is becoming a parody of himself. This Sardinia trip on how they make cork and making it sound like c**k and coke at every opportunity a bit funny 30 seconds in, then just got very boring after that. #thismorning."
