Alex Scott became emotional on This Morning on Monday, as she opened up on her new book, How (Not) To Be Strong.
Host Phillip Schofield offered comfort as she fought back tears, and became choked up when attempting to respond to a question.
Both Phillip and co-host Holly Willoughby were addressing different parts of the book, in which sports star and TV presenter Alex opened up about her childhood, and her journey through life.
Discussing some of her darkest moments and the toughest points in her life, Alex's moving book details aspects of her life including living with her abusive and controlling father as a child.
But as she went to talk about this in particular, Alex became emotional before making a moving confession.
Phillip read a section from the book and told her: "It's tricky stuff to write isn't it."
Alex went to reply but couldn't talk and began to tear up, leading to Phil and Holly stepping in.
Holly said: "It's even trickier to say, I know and I think that's it, when people write an autobiography.... suddenly you have to say it."
Alex choked up, as she began: "I think," before becoming teary again, leading to Phil replying: "Stop, don't do it, don't do it. Listen, it's in the book."
Alex then explained her emotions, telling the host: "You know what, the hard thing as well is I didn't do it, I didn't write that part to shame my dad. I wanted my mum to be free."
Phil asked about her "holding her mum up as a role model", and she said: "Yeah, and I want her to see that and believe that, and move forward and be free.
"She still thinks she's a coward, and she's anything but, she is an incredible woman."
Phillip hailed her as an inspiration to many, saying young people who might be in similar situations that she faced as a child, would read the book and see what they could achieve.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
