Phillip Schofield breaks cover for first time in a month to celebrate mum's birthday

Phillip Schofield was spotted looking glum in Cornwall as he celebrated his mum Pat's 87th birthday.

The former This Morning presenter, who was dropped from his management and ITV after confessing to an affair with a younger male colleague, was photographed out in photos obtained by MailOnline.

Phillip can be seen looking glum whilst out and about wearing a casual blue T-shirt and white linen shorts.

The 61-year-old was seen clutching his phone, car keys and his vape in the photos as he was spotted in a car park. The former presenter appeared to have a slight tan, sporting a healthier appearance compared to his tell-all interview following his affair confession.

The presenter said: "I do not know a time I will be able to walk out of the door. I don’t have any spirit. My friends tell me, ‘It will get better’. It won’t. Not now. Not this one.

“Are they spitting on me because I had an affair at work and lied about it?," he told The Sun.

Speaking about his mental state in his first interview following the affair controversial as he thanked his daughter for their endless support. Phillip said that his daughters were so worried they're afraid to leave his side - and that if they hadn't been there then he wouldn't be.

"Last week if my daughters hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here," he said. "They've been by my side every moment because they're scared to let me out of their sight.

"They’ve guarded me and won’t let me out of their sight, it’s like a weird numbness."

Speaking of the trolling he has faced since admitting the affair, Phillip said: "Do you want me to die? Because that’s where I am. It is relentless, and it is day after day, after day after day.

"If you don’t think that that is going to have the most catastrophic effect on someone’s mind… do want me to die? Because that’s where I am. I have lost everything."

This comes after Sir Elton John recently came to the defence of Phillip and said the furore around the situation is 'totally homophobic'. He said: "Well, it's all going pear-shaped in America. There's violence, (discriminatory) laws enacted in Florida, which are disgraceful.

"There's a law now that, if you visit a doctor in Florida, they can refuse to treat you if you're gay, which I find just unbelievable. We seem to be going backwards. And that spreads. It's like a virus that the LGBTQ+ movement is suffering."

He told Radio Times: "I don't like it at all. It's a growing swell of anger and homophobia that's around America. I don't know if it's around Britain because I haven't been here that much. But I feel that the Phillip Schofield thing has been totally homophobic."
