Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby's This Morning replacements confirmed for next week

While speculation is rife as to who will permanently replace Phillip Schofield on ITV daytime show This Morning, it has been confirmed who will be presenting the show over the coming week.

ITV has confirmed that Holly Willoughby will be taking two weeks off and will not be back on the ITV show until June 5. Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson are now among the current favourites as contenders to succeed Phillip Schofield after it was confirmed he will not be going back.

The 61-year-old TV presenter announced he was leaving with immediate effect on Saturday, May 20, meaning Thursday was his last day on the show after almost 20 years of presenting the popular programme.

Poll: Should the TV Licence be scrapped? Have your say

Schofield released a statement on Saturday, confirming his exit from the show. In it, he said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

Now, it has been confirmed that Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary will be standing in for both Holly and Phil in the upcoming week, the Mirror reports. The pair usually present the show on Friday mornings.
