Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby appeared on screens for the first time following the news that they were no longer the best of friends.
In recent days, the pair have faced intense coverage as their private fallout became public knowledge as they face pressure to ensure their on-screen relationship appears unaffected.
The presenters have been a solid unit for over a decade, fronting shows such as This Morning and Dancing On Ice alongside one another.
It comes following claims that ITV bosses are prepared to sack Phillip from the programme if it appears he and Holly are no longer close.
Opening the show, neither Holly nor Phil addressed the speculation around their friendship while chatting about the recent news headlines.
This left fans completely bewildered, with one writing: "We're looking at all the headlines' Philip Schofield… not quite ALL the headlines. Holly and Phil looking incredibly self-conscious… #ThisMorning."
"How totally uncomfortable does @Schofe look today on @thismorning? I'm cringing watching this… Knowing they want to punch each other straight in the face #thismorning #PhillipSchofield #HollyWilloughby And any reason their news review didn't mention the elephant in the room?!" said a second.
While a third typed: "Dodging the main paper's headlines of themselves, trying to fool the public into thinking all is fine! Just be honest! This is nauseating #thismorning."
Elsewhere on the programme, Phillip revealed that he and Holly were left in floods of tears before returning to the set.
Holly was overcome with emotion as she viewed a video clip of Kevin Sinfield carrying Rob Burrow over the finish line for the Leeds Marathon.
While watching the moving clip, Phil said: "Oh my God, this!"
Before commentator Camilla Tominey added: "Oh this is going to make us cry."
"It does make you cry," said Holly, before Phillip explained: "We had to watch this a couple of times this morning to just get it out of our system," while Holly interrupted saying: "But it's still... Ugh."
It comes just one day after the Mirror revealed that Phillip and Holly would be returning to the show together following days of confusion.
While Phillip is reportedly aware of the public's opinion of him, sources claim he is prepared to "tough it out" after Holly decided to cut all ties with her former best friend.
They were the closest of friends for several years after becoming work pals but it's since emerged that Holly and Phillip have cancelled family trips together.
Holly and Phil faced mounting pressure after they appeared to skip the queue to visit the late Queen Elizabeth while she was lying in state.
Their contracts are up for renewal in September and Holly is believed to be pushing bosses for a new deal after it emerged that she was willing to front the show without him.
Bosses are believed to be holding key meetings in the coming days to discuss his future on the show with reports suggesting his last appearance could be in the coming weeks.
"Monday is very much D-day, but the same could apply to any day next week," a source said.
Sources explained that their frosty relationship is clear to see for those around the pair in the TV studio and is completely different to how they appear on TV.

It's believed that neither Holly nor ITV were aware that Phillip was preparing to speak about their friendship so publicly leaving the star completely blindsided.
Meanwhile, a source claimed it was "desperate stuff" from Phillip given the current state of their relationship.
